Honda Reveals its Surprisingly Generous Clarity FCV Lease Deal

The Honda Clarity Fuel Cell is primed to enter the market before the end of 2016. With fuel-cell technology comes a massive price tag, as expected. Despite its anticipated super-high MSRP, Honda has just announced the Clarity Fuel Cell’s debut lease deal, and it’s pretty darn incredible.

While the MSRP isn’t official just yet, most experts estimate it to fall in the $60,000 range, which puts it about in line with the $57,500 Toyota Mirai. For those who cannot shell out that kind of cash for what’s essentially an experimental car, Honda will offer a 36-month lease for California residents who are near the 12 dealerships eligible to sell this fuel-cell vehicle. This lease will require $2,868 at signing and monthly payments of just $369.

The lease payment alone is quite generous for a $60,000 car, but it gets even better once you dig into the details. Included with this lease is up to $15,000 in free hydrogen fill-ups during the three-year lease, a generous 20,000-mile-per-year driving allowance, 24/7 roadside assistance, AND up to 21 days of rentals from Avis Luxury Rental in California.

At hydrogen’s current operating cost of 21 cents per mile in California, this means you can exceed the 60,000-mile cap over the course of the three-year lease by roughly 11,400 miles and still not pay a dime for fuel. That’s not too shabby if you ask me.

More details on the Honda Clarity will come as we near its official release later in 2016. Stay tuned.
