Gumpert Gets a Helping Hand From Hong Kong-Based Investors
Gumpert was never a household name, but there is no denying that the German automaker has churned out some of the most unique supercars and concepts in recent history. After a brief nine-year stint as an automaker, the small company was forced into bankruptcy in 2013 and never recovered. Today we learned that a new investment group, known as Consolidated Ideal TeamVenture, has picked up the pieces of Gumpert and will soon put it back into production.
The group in question happens to be the same group of investors that snatched up De Tomaso last year at a bargain of €1.05 million ($1.15 million). Along with the announcement of the purchase of the failed automaker, the investment group showed its intentions with a countdown to the “new chapter” for the Apollo. The timer is counting down to January 11, 2016 t 8:00 a.m. EST.
Unfortunately, there is no indication of what the newly revived brand has planned for this day, but we won’t have to wait too long to find out. Chances are that we will see a new version of the Apollo, which could be renamed the Arrow. Other rumors, and its own website name “apollo-automobil.com,” indicate that the Gumpert brand will be completely renamed Apollo Automobil GmbH.
These are all of the details we have at this point, as the investment group has kept things pretty low key since purchasing the supercar maker. Like you, we’ll be counting down the days until Gumpert gets a new life on January 11th. We’ll bring you all of the details once they becomes available, so stay tuned for more.
