When the Corvette Z06 debuted with its 650 horses and 650 pound-feet of twisting force, the industry took notice. Then when GM announced that it would be available in a convertible with minimal weight gain, consumers went nuts. Finally, once the prices of $78,995 for the coupe and $83,995 for the drop-top were released, we all knew that this was the new American supercar.

Today, we bring you the proof that this is more supercar than sports car, as Chevy has just unveiled the Z06’s performance specs, and they are nothing short of extraordinary. With the $7,995 Z07 Performance package in place, which adds Brembo carbon-ceramic rotors, adjustable aero components on the front and rear, the Carbon Fiber Ground Effects package and Michelin Pilot Super Sport Cup tires, and the eight-speed auto transmission the Z06 hit 60 mph in just 2.95 seconds and ripped off the quarter-mile in 10.95 seconds at 127 mph. With the seven-speed manual transmission it is slightly slower with a 3.2-second 0-to-60-mph sprint time and an 11.2-second quarter-mile time at 127 mph.

Though it has great straight-line speed, don’t start thinking that the Z06 is just a straight-line monster. It stops from 60 mph in just 99.6 feet and handles up to 1.2 g in lateral acceleration with the Z07 Performance package.

Take a look at some of today’s supercars and you’ll see just how impressive these numbers are. The $233,000 Ferrari 458 Italia takes roughly three seconds to hit 60 mph; the $200,000 Ferrari California T takes over three seconds to hit 60 mph; and the all-new Lamborghini Huracan takes about three seconds to hit 60 mph. Sure, the Corvette Z06 may not have the same level of build or the impressive levels of luxury as these supercars, but in pure performance, it is right in line with cars that are more than double its price.
