If you think that everyone who owns a GM vehicle that is part of the infamous ignition switch recall are scrambling to get the issue fixed for free, think again. GM knows that there are people who just simply aren’t bothering to have the fix applied to their car, risking that the ignition will turn off while they are traveling down the road, locking the steering and turning off all of the systems, including the airbags. Talk about living life on the edge needlessly.

To help incentivize car owners to take their ride to a dealership for the recall repair, GM is sweetening the deal. Now, not only do consumers enjoy the peace of mind that comes with knowing their car is at least relatively safe, they will also receive a $25 gift card for their trouble.

GM is contacting car owners and letting them know about the free gift card that is waiting for them at dealers. GM says that once the recall repair has been completed, the car owners are given a code that is used at a certain website to redeem a card to one of seven options: Walmart, Bass Pro Shops, Starbucks, Applebee’s, Red Robin, Amazon, or AMC.

The gift card push is of course a good risk management move by GM. Considering that a growing number of fatalities have been blamed on the faulty ignition switch, the automaker is trying to eliminate any more incidents.
