Volkswagen isn’t getting much love these days, what with the toxic emissions coverup and such. Unfortunately, the company’s string of bad luck doesn’t seem to be ending anytime soon. In the latest development, Best Buy’s Geek Squad is ditching its iconic Beetles in favor of the Toyota Prius c.

Apparently, one of the driving factors for the decision is fuel economy. While a Beetle TDI might have delivered a pretty impressive return on efficiency as well, the public image that would go along with a fleet of those would definitely outweigh any benefits.

For now, a wave of 1,000 Toyota Prius c hybrids are coming to a Best Buy near you, with about 700 hitting the streets right about now. The other 300 should be deployed by the end of 2016. According to a recent Automotive News report, the plan is to keep the cars around until they either hit 65,000 miles or are 48 months old.

Best Buy says that its Geek Squad Agents drive about 12.6 million miles each year. That’s a lot of WiFi network installations and home theater optimizations! Considering that the Prius c is rated by the EPA at 53 mpg in the city, Best Buy stands to save some serious cash with the new cars. The hybrids also help out big time with the company’s goal of shrinking its carbon emissions by 45 percent in four years.

While Geek Squad is in the mood for change, it’s also swapping out the old vehicle graphics for an updated look.
