Ford Reveals its Picky Process for Choosing GT Owners
We are all too familiar with the crazy process that Ferrari requires prospective buyers of its limited-run wares to go through. There are stipulations regarding previous Fezza ownership, driving history, and more involved in just getting the okay to buy a rare prancing horse. Apparently Ford thinks highly enough of its upcoming GT to tear a page straight from Ferrari’s books when choosing potential suitors for the first 250 GTs to roll off the production line.
According to The Detroit News via Car & Driver, Ford is requiring interested buyers to go through an online vetting process. In this process, Ford will take into consideration the number of blue oval models each applicant has owned—certainly owning a few GTs trumps a owning a dozen Escort GTs—and it will verify that the buyer plans to actually drive the GT instead of turning it into a trailer queen. Ford is also interested in the how active potential GT owners are on social media.
In addition to all of these questions, Ford is also taking legal action to prevent folks from buying GTs and flipping them for a profit. During the purchase process, buyers will have to sign a legal document that prevents them from selling the car for an undisclosed period of time. How Ford plans to regulate this is unknown, but at least the automaker is doing what it can to make sure these GTs get their time in the public spotlight instead of in a glass case somewhere.
The application process is scheduled to launch sometime in February with GT deliveries taking place later in the year. We’ll bring you more about this process once the details are available.
Stay tuned for more info.
