Following a Leak, the BMW X4 M40i Makes its Official Debut

Just a few days ago, the BMW X4 M40i images leaked, giving us a great look at what this more potent version of the funky crossover has to offer. What wasn’t leaked were the specifications and other juicy details. Well, following that unintended reveal, BMW has unveiled all the pertinent information about the X4 M40i.

Under its hood, the X4 M40i carries an M Performance TwinPower Turbo 3.0-liter six-cylinder. This engine injects 355 horsepower – 5 fewer ponies than initially speculated – and 343 pound-feet of torque. This engine pairs with an eight-speed Steptronic transmission that redirects the power to Bimmer’s xDrive all-wheel-drive system. This amounts to a 0-to-60 sprint time of just 4.7 seconds and a top speed of 150 mph.

Handling is another key area for this M-touched X4. On the corners, there are 19-inch light-alloy wheels wrapped up in Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires. Optionally, buyers can fit this model with a set of 20-inch light-alloy wheels. This model also has Dynamic Damper Control to better tune the suspension for various conditions. Stopping duties are handled by larger discs up front and performance pads on all four corners.

In addition to being lightning quick, the M40i is also loaded with all sorts of features. These premium goodies include variable sport steering, Park Distance Control, xenon adaptive headlights, LED fog lights, sport seats coated in Nevada Leather, an M steering wheel, Comfort Access Keyless entry, and satellite radio.

Look for the 2016 BMW X4 M40i to hit dealers in February 2016. BMW did not announce a starting price, but look for it to start slightly higher than the $49,250 starting price of the X4 xDrive35i model. My best guess would be around $57,000.
