Ferrari SUV Rendered
Speculation is fun, sometimes even more entertaining than auto industry rumors. That’s what makes the latest rendering from TopSpeed great, because it depicts something that doesn’t exist but could incite violence: a Ferrari SUV.
To be clear, the Ferrari SUV won’t happen so long as current CEO Sergio Marchionne is in control. The guy is vehemently opposed to the very concept. You could call him a purist, and he has a reputation for being rather hot-headed, but his declarations likely have some bite behind them. Of course, many of Ferrari’s competitors have said the same thing, only to later cave and develop an SUV. The list stretches on and on, including Bentley to Maserati and even Rolls-Royce.
It’s just a matter of time before Ferrari folds and hops on the gravy train.
At the same time, Marchionne is not well-liked in Italy, and Ferrari is the country’s automotive crown jewel. As TopSpeed points out, Ferrari’s stock isn’t doing so well, and sales volume is trending low for 2016. In other words, there’s always a possibility of a coup against the CEO, and in the shuffle an SUV just might be born to keep the company afloat financially.
Hopefully a production Ferrari SUV won’t be too far off from this rendering. Instead of being a hideously deformed contraption, it’s actually pretty nice-looking. The artist borrowed the front end of the GTC4Lusso, which is making a debut in Geneva. One big difference is how the hood slopes upward before meeting the windshield, but other than that the resemblance is striking.
You’ll notice fender vents that are also similar to those on the GTC4Lusso, but with one gill each instead of the other vehicle’s three. From the side, you can see the doors are shorter on this SUV, and of course there’s an extra set thrown into the mix. The wheels are also borrowed from the GTC4Lusso, with low profile tires wrapped around them.
Overall, this rendering shows an SUV that’s made for people hauling, a little bit of cargo, and a fair amount of performance. The height and ground clearance clearly won’t contribute to the same level of handling you would get with vehicles like the GTC4Lusso, but those other models don’t accommodate four people in a night out on the town.
