Nevada of all places is becoming increasingly important when it comes to the automotive industry. While it’s been the home of Shelby American for a few years, it will soon also include two major installations for up-and-coming automakers.

Faraday Future, the mysterious electric car company that has materialized out of seemingly nowhere, has announced it will be building a production plant in North Las Vegas. The facility will cost $1 billion, according to the company. It could be a huge economic uplift for the area, bringing in many technical manufacturing jobs with excellent pay grades.

Reportedly, the California-based car company was in talks with three other states before selecting Nevada for its first factory. The whole deal hinges on getting some big tax incentives, which is what swayed Tesla to locate its Gigafactory in the state.

According to a report from Business Insider, Republican leadership in Nevada are already behind doing what it takes to land the deal. Both Republican Assembly Majority Leader Paul Anderson and Governor Brian Sandoval are working to drum up support on both sides of the isle in the state legislature. In 2014 the state’s lawmakers approved $1.3 billion in incentives for Tesla Motors, a move many economists claim will provide far greater economic uplift for the state than the breaks it’s provided.

Not even a name for the upcoming Faraday Future car is known. The company will unveil a concept for the first time at CES in January. It also claims that a production version of the vehicle will launch in 2017. Even though little is known about the automaker, it has been able to attract top managers and talent from some big name companies such as Apple, Tesla and General Motors as it seems to be building momentum.

Speculation is that the Faraday Future car will be a fully autonomous electric vehicle that will offer an alternative to services such as Uber. Instead of owning the car, users would hail it through a smartphone app, making for a more flexible way to get around. This, of course, is just a theory based on what few statements the company’s management and PR department have made up to this point.
