Ferrari traditionalists, you may want to navigate to another page, as you probably won’t like this report. According to Motor Trend’s own Jonny Leiberman, Ferrari is planning to release an entry-level coupe to play around with the likes of the 911 Turbo S and the McLaren 570S in 2019. If this is true, then all of your fears when Sergio Marchionne took the wheel of Ferrari appear to be coming true.

The report is straight from Leiberman’s Twitter page, where he posted “HOT SCOOP: Ferrari has a TT V6 car coming, aimed at Porsche Turbo S, AMG GT, and McLaren 570S. $180K, 2019 #ferrari #dino #dinolives #NYIAS.” He then followed that up with a reply to a follower questioning where his info came from by saying “a source deep in FCA. Not joking.” I will entertain the idea only because Marchionne has spoken of making Ferrari a little more accessible since Luca di Montezemolo left (read: kicked out of) the company.

The smallest-displacement engine Ferrari has in its lineup now is the 3.9-liter twin-turbo V-8 in the California T and 488 GTB. This engine is good for 553 horsepower and 557 pound-feet of torque in the California, while the 488 GTB’s version puts out a whopping 660 horsepower and 560 pound-feet of torque. So where would this V-6 come from?

Well, you have to look beyond the Prancing horse and you’ll find an existing, Ferrari-engineered twin-turbo V-6. This one rests between the wheel wells of the Maserati Ghibli and produces up to 404 horsepower. Chances are that Ferrari could pretty easily push this output to the mid-500-horsepower area, which would put it right in line with the 911 Turbo S and the McLaren 570S.

For now, this is all just speculation based upon one man’s Twitter claim, so I suggest taking it with a grain of salt. It is, however, a rather intriguing topic.
