Chevy Previews the 2016 Cruze

The Chevy Cruze has been a smashing success, as the brand’s global sedan has sold more than 3.5 million units around the world. This has brought new buyers into the brand and helped keep existing owners loyal to the brand. Chevy is now rewarding its popular Cruze by giving it a healthy redesign for the 2016 model year.

The initial press release is little more than just a preview of what’s to come for the 2016 Cruze. However, the teaser image that Chevy gave us is rather revealing. In the teaser image, the upper grille looks like it may draw inspiration from the Camaro, while the overall look is far sportier than the 2015 Cruze. This sportier looks is courtesy of a wide-open lower air inlet, a more aggressive front apron, and sharp fog light surrounds. Recent spy shots confirm all of these changes.

On top of the new look, Chevy also states that the Cruze will be larger and lighter than the existing model. This translates into more cabin and cargo room, and a more agile sedan. Also on the table are new powertrains. Unfortunately, Chevy didn’t dive into the engines powering the 2016 Cruze, but I wouldn’t expect any dramatic changes. Look for a new 1.5-liter four-cylinder to replace the current 1.8-liter, while a retuned version of the turbocharged 1.4-liter will sit in the middle. Topping the range will be the same 2.0-liter turbo-diesel from 2015.
