Chevy Might Not Kill The SS After All
The Chevy SS is a surprisingly divisive car. Enthusiasts should be all over the thing, considering it’s cheap speed and more, like the late Pontiac G8. But like its GM cousin, the SS isn’t flashy or sexy at all, and in the end people are shallow.
Fortunately, someone at GM gets that the SS has a right to live. Sure, sales have been lackluster. With the upcoming shuttering of GM facilities in the land Down Under, it looked like the SS was toast. Some thought it was time to garage the SS forever.
CarAdvice talked to the Camaro chief engineer in New York. They found out a second generation model is probably coming. Probably, yes, because nothing’s for sure right now.
Chevy might keep the SS around. It’ll need a new platform, considering the Zeta is going away. Which platform the future performance sedan would ride on isn’t clear right now, because CarAdvice couldn’t get a straight answer in the interview.
So there you go: GM may or may not deal the death blow to the SS. It’s a car that looks too much like an Impala, has the interior of a Malibu and the heart of a Corvette. Killing it would be a real shame, but what have we done to deserve this rear-wheel drive performance sedan? Like with the Subaru BRZ, everyone’s ignored the thing, so if it dies the blood is on all of our hands.
