Chevy Gave a Sneak Peek of the 2016 Volt at CES

Volt-2

The 2016 Chevrolet Volt is one of many hotly anticipated debuts for the 2015 North American International Auto Show in Detroit. Not only is the Volt already a relatively popular car in the first place, but the anticipated change in its appearance, its increased performance and its increased range are poised to potentially make it a revolutionary range-extended EV. Well, we are still stuck waiting on the final details on the mechanical and electrical side of things, but in terms of looks, the cat is now out of the bag. At a 2015 CES event, General Motors decided that it couldn’t contain itself any longer and revealed the sedan for about 30 seconds (video below).

Thanks to the folks over at CNET, who attended the event, we now have a clear shot of the 2016 Chevy Volt in all of its glory. And quite frankly, I am a tad disappointed. Maybe it’s the color that GM chose or maybe it is just bad lighting, but the 2016 Volt is rather “blah.” The original Volt may not be the sexiest thing on the road, but it is unique, and this video shows off a car that one could easily be passed off as a Honda Civic.

With that said, the looks of the Volt are not the main attraction, as folks buy it for its ability to travel nearly 40 miles without a drop of gasoline. I will reserve my final judgment for when GM reveals all of the drivetrain information. I only hope that the 2016 Volt kills its predecessor in terms of range and acceleration, as the revised body feels like a step backward at this point. Hopefully it is just a matter of the poor lighting at the event and the bad angle that the picture was taken from, but it seems to lack any character.

Stay tuned for all of the official details, as the Volt is set to debut in just a few days.
