Chevy Blows Away Expectations With The Bolt
238 miles: that’s how far the 2017 Chevy Bolt can go on a single charge, according to the EPA. It’s an impressive figure that has everyone talking. There’s even more to be amazed at by the car, which will be hitting dealers later this year.
According to GM, it’ll retail for less than $37,500, so with the federal tax credit buyers could get out the door for under $30,000. An 8-year/100,00-mile battery warranty is included in that price, just in case you’re worried about footing the bill to replace it down the road.
With a DC Fast Charger, Bolt owners will get about 90 miles of range in 30 minutes. That’s plenty of in-town runs for everyday life.
Before you think this is all marketing fluff, know that reviewers have been shocked by the car so far. Green Car Reports was amazed at the real-world range, which it claims can be much higher than 238 miles. The website said the Bolt handled and accelerated great, plus is deceptively roomy inside. It even went so far as saying the Bolt is the standard against which the Model 3 will be measured.
Charles Fleming of the LA Times said he was able to go 240 miles, with enough charge left to go another 50 miles. Car and Driver was impressed by the onboard electronics, steering and pedal sensitivity.
Essentially, all of this puts the Chevy right in the realm of Tesla. Instead of constantly worrying about needing to plug in, owners should be able to just live their life.
