At one point, the SS Sedan looked like it was destined for elimination; hell, even we wrote it off after the 2015 model year. Well, it is returning for 2016, and it has undergone a mild transformation for the new model year. While the changes are pretty subtle, they are noticeable once you get the 2015 and 2016 models side by side.

The most obvious change for the 2016 model year is the redesigned front bumper. On the bumper’s outer edges, Chevy has revised the fog light surrounds and added in slits to allow air to flow through more freely, while the gloss-black strikethrough now displays an “SS” emblem. Also new are functional hood vents, the LED signature lighting, and the Slipstream Blue exterior hue (pictured).

New 19-inch wheels cap off the exterior changes for the new model year. These wheels feature painted pockets and ultra-bright machined faces to add a striking look to the corners of this muscular sedan.

Inside the SS’ cabin, things remain unchanged, for the most part. The single change for the 2016 model year is the addition of standard navigation and Chevrolet MyLink with an 8-inch audio head unit.

Under its hood, the 2016 Chevrolet SS will continue with the 6.2-liter V-8 engine that puts out 415 horsepower and 415 pound-feet of torque. These matching measurements run through a standard six-cog manual or an optional six-speed auto and out to the rear wheels by way of a 3.27-to-1 or 3.70-to-1 rear axle. This amounts out to a 0-to-60 mph sprint of just under five seconds.

The only difference in the powertrain of the SS is its exhaust system, as Chevy added in a new dual-mode system. This delivers a subdued exhaust note at low rpm and a throatier note under full throttle.

Chevy has yet to reveal the MSRP of the 2016 SS, but I don’t expect it to be much higher than the $45,745 starting price of the 2015 model.
