Chevrolet Reveals The All-New Malibu
With the reveal of the all-new 2016 Chevy Malibu we see that GM is serious about making a car that looks good somewhere other than in a rental company parking lot. According to Chevrolet, the new model not only is more attractive, it’s safer, more efficient and better connected than ever.
The 2016 Malibu’s also longer by almost four inches and more lightweight by about 300 pounds. That means more room in the backseat, without taking a hit at the gas pump. The standard 1.5-liter turbocharged engine puts out 160 horsepower and is supposed to get about 37 mpg on the highway, which isn’t too shabby. For those who crave more performance, there will be a 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbo engine that throws down about 250 horsepower. People who want great fuel economy can go with the new Malibu Hybrid, which borrows from the Volt’s powertrain and gets a GM-estimated 47 mpg combined.
One of the most critical elements in the midsize sedan segment is looks. Sadly, the 2015 Malibu was ugly and unimaginative, which is partly why sales were slow. The 2016 model, on the other hand, looks more like a luxury model, at least from the outside. GM even achieved a clean, fresh appearance without ripping off designs from European automakers, something Ford could definitely learn from.
When the all-new Malibu launches, it’ll come with some pretty cool features. Parents will be able to use the Teen Driver feature to monitor their children’s behavior while they’re using the car. The available OnStar 4G LTE system gives everyone riding inside a high-speed Internet connection that can accommodate video streaming services such as Netflix and Hulu.
If you’re excited to get your hands on the new Malibu, at least your wait won’t be too long. The midsize sedan is launching during the fourth quarter of this year, with a more specific release date coming sometime in the future. In addition to the Hybrid trim, there will be the L, LS, LT and Premier rounding out the lineup.
