Since GM restructured and cut the fat with the shuttering of Saturn, Oldsmobile and Hummer, Buick has been on a mad tear to reinvent itself. It’s main objective now is to shed its decades-old image of being your grandparents car and replace it with a sportier and younger one. What better way to do that than to import models from Europe and rebadge them as Buicks? This has been the company’s plan as of late, and we may see yet another imported model make its debut in Buick dealers in 2015.

If Buick wants to truly be seen as a competitor to the likes of Audi, Lexus and Infiniti, it needs to develop a luxurious drop-top model. That said, building one from the ground up is something that Buick, quite frankly, doesn’t have the time nor the finances to do. So it is looking to its European cousin, Opel, for a little help by borrowing and rebadging the Opel Cascada as a Buick.

This convertible Buick was simply a rumor until recently, when Buick brought a Cascada to the U.S. and showed it off to its network of dealers as a future product, according to a report from GM Inside News. Rumor has it that the Buick Cascada will debut in 2015 as a 2016 model year.

When Buick finally releases this midsize drop-top, it will likely arrive only with one engine option instead of all three European options. The U.S.-spec engine will likely be the 1.6-liter, turbocharged four-cylinder that produces 167 horsepower and 207 pound-feet of torque. Sure, that is a little sub-par for the U.S. luxury convertible realm, but the U.S.-spec engine may have its power pushed closer to the 200-horsepower mark.

As for the looks of the Cascada, expect to see a direct carryover from Europe, save for a few safety bits and Buick’s trishield badges.

Given this rumor proves to be true, it looks like Buick may be closing in on completely reinventing itself.
