Buick has finally priced out the 2016 Cascada convertible, and it’s surprisingly affordable. The starting price is a mere $33,990.

To help drive home the point of what a good deal the Cascada is, Buick has been highlighting that its new convertible has a lower starting price than the Audi A3 Cabriolet. You can pick up the Cascada for $3,535 less than the Audi, to be exact. While people might at first think that the Audi is more loaded, the fact is that the Buick has a more impressive list of standard features like leather upholstery and heated seats/steering wheel, plus is motivated by a more powerful engine.

This pricing puts the Cascada in a unique position. It fills the void that has been left by the discontinuation of the Chrysler 200 convertible, Volvo C70 and Volkswagen Eos. Lexus’ IS C has one axle in the grave. Because of the severe lack of direct competitors, Buick has decided to use an Audi to highlight what a good deal the Cascada is.

Nobody is going to mistake the Cascada for a performance vehicle, but it should be at least sporty enough to keep the target market entertained. It packs a 1.6-liter four-cylinder turbocharged engine that makes 200 horsepower, plus a six-speed automatic transmission. The HiPer Strut front suspension and Watts Z-link in the rear should help the convertible whip through turns with some zip.

The Cascada also comes with some nice style features, which are points that many shoppers will zero in on. Among them are the 20-inch aluminum wheels with a bi-color finish, helping the car really stand out. While HID headlights are standard, there are more premium LED daytime running lights and taillights. The Premium trim adds quite a few driver assist technologies, plus air deflectors for the front and rear.

One might question the sanity of Buick for creating a mid-luxury convertible, considering that other automakers have been emptying out of the segment rapidly. Some might argue that consumers either want a cheap drop-top like the Miata, or a more expensive version such as the BMW 2 Series.
