BMW Teases the 8 Series, and it’s a Whole Lot of F–k Yeah!
BMW is resurrecting the 8 Series lineup soon, and just recently, it gave us the first look at its design. Damn… it’s gorgeous.
BMW recently announced the death of the 6 Series. While some cried in their Champagne over its elimination, others saw it as an opportunity for something fresh. And the upcoming 8 Series is just that.
The 8 Series’ teaser image shows something like a reworked and stretched 6 Series with exaggerated body lines and sleek silhouette that ends with a slight upward tick from the rear spoiler. But closer examination shows there is a lot of classic 8 Series in there too.
Its pointed nose appears to hark back to the last version of the 8 Series, which was in 1997. Unlike the 1997 8 Series, though, the new model will not come with pop-up headlights. The rear end also harks back to its predecessor, as the teaser shows a dramatic flair over the rear wheel, much like the 8er of yesteryear had.
Without seeing the entire car in the metal, it looks as if BMW is taking the design language of the late-1990s 8 Series and updating it for 2018. Given the execution is right, then this would be a slam dunk for Bimmer.
Other than its anticipated 2018 release, all other details surrounding the new 8 Series remain unknown. But given it’s set to arrive in about a year, I wouldn’t be surprised to see a concept or a design study very soon.
Stay tuned for updates.
