BMW M4 GTS to Lose its Rear Seats and About 220 Pounds

We are all anxious to see hotter versions of the M3 and M4, and today we have a report from BMW Blog outlining a few of the details surrounding the latter.

According to this report, which comes straight from a BMW insider, the M4 GTS will include a roll cage and a rear seat delete. The latter will be a part of BMW’s effort to whittle away 100 kg (220 pounds) of heft from the M4. Also helping in this weight loss will be ultra-lightweight bucket seats up front. Unfortunately for U.S. buyers, it looks as if the optional roll cage will not be a part of the American lineup, thanks to strict regulations forbidding it. The insider points out that there may be other parts of the M4 that are available in Europe but not the U.S.
Like all GTS models before it, the M4 GTS will make use of various aerodynamic components to help hold the coupe on the road. It’ll need all the help it can get too, as sources indicate that BMW will push the M4 GTS’ output to a whopping 470 horsepower, thanks to a water-injection system and other updates.
For those of you hoping to snag up a six-speed version of the mighty GTS when it debuts, you’ll have to compromise. According to the report, the only transmission option will be a dual-clutch unit.
BMW Blog is quick to point out that its insider, while reliable, hasn’t always been 100 percent accurate in his or her reports. Nevertheless, we should find out soon enough, as the M4 GTS will make its much-anticipated debut in the summer of 2015.
Stay tuned for more information.
