The rumors were true: BMW was working on an M-version of the 7 Series. The 2017 M760i xDrive is now out in the open, and it’s the most powerful BMW V-12 ever. Even though final output figures aren’t available, BMW has said the twin-turbo 6.6-liter, which also powers the Rolls-Royce Wraith, will put out about 600 horsepower and 590 lb.-ft. of torque (which kicks in at just 1,500 rpm).

Working with the engine is an eight-speed Steptronic Sport Automatic transmission, plus paddle shifters. The xDrive all-wheel-drive system has a rear-wheel bias for plenty of tire-shredding fun. According to BMW, the big sedan will rocket from 0 to 62 in about 3.9 seconds, while the top speed is electronically limited to 155 mph.

An engine symphony should be produced by the M sport exhaust system, which BMW said has the biggest diameter and as few bends as possible. Thanks to the advanced rear silencers and flap activation system, drivers can change the settings from nice to growling to suit their mood.

The specialness of the M760i continues with an M aerodynamic package. It includes a unique front fascia with huge intakes, nixing the foglights. There’s also an M rear spoiler to let people know from behind that the sedan isn’t just a luxury cruiser, if the M badge isn’t enough of a clue.

All of the tech goodies included with the other new 7 Series models, like gesture control and driver assist systems, are packed into the BMW M760i xDrive. Drivers get some extra help from the Traffic Jam Assistant. On top of that, the Surround View system adds some new tricks with Panorama and 3D View.

BMW has crammed all sorts of M logos all over the M760i, but not quite as many as some other M models. The logos appear on exterior badges, the wheels, the engine cover, brake calipers, the instrument cluster, etc. To help owners remember what kind of engine is under the hood, the door sills and center console are both adorned with a V-12 script.

Needless to say, this should be a great driver’s car, even though the backseat is still quite plush. And now the M model lineup is pretty much complete.
