It is no secret that Bimmer will eventually release an M4 GTS, as this is just part of the brand’s protocol to create track0tuned versions of its M-Series cars. At the Monterey Car Week, which ran from August 10th through the 16th, we got our first glimpse of this rig with the introduction of its conceptual preview.

The main focus of all BMW GTS models is to reduce weight, and this concept showed this off with its carbon-fiber-reinforced-plastic hood, which lowers its curb weight and center of gravity. A set of light-alloy 666 M wheels help keep the unsprung weight low, while the Michelin Sport Cup 2 tires sized 265/35R19 up front and 285/30R20 out back keep the rig glued to the tarmac.

Another key components to all GTS models is downforce. The M4 GTS Concept is no exception to this norm, as Bimmer added a manually adjustable front splitter and rear spoiler to fine tune its downforce for varying conditions. What’s more, these are made from carbon fiber to avoid any extra heft.

The final piece to the GTS puzzle is more power. The concept model showed up in Monterey with the water injection system that we previously saw in the BMW M4 MotoGP Safety Car. This system helps keep the temperature in the combustion chamber low, which allows BMW to turn the wick up on the boost and advance the injection timing slightly without creating dangerous engine knock. BMW also upgraded the cooling system to keep this hot six-cylinder in a safe operating range.

While BMW did not reveal the specific output of the GTS concept, the BMW M4 MotoGP Safety Car is likely a good reference point at 431 horsepower.

In addition to making this concept fast, BMW also had to make it look good. To achieve this, Bimmer coated the GTS Concept in a sleek Frozen Dark Grey metallic with splashes of Acid Orange on the front splitter and wheels. A set of OLED taillights round out the package by giving those behind you a clear look at its backsie — a view most cars will just have to get used to.

There is no mention of when the official M4 GTS will bow, but if this preview is somewhat accurate, then we are in for a one hell of a special-edition M4. Stay tuned for more.
