BMW Celebrates Performance With Special Edition M4

Heritage. Legacy. These are concepts that can bring a tear to the eye of any died-in-the-wool BMW fan. They also make for great marketing fodder. Most performance enthusiasts look at the modern M4 with at least some derision, if not outright hatred. That’s why it can’t help but feel like a backhanded gesture that BMW has revealed its 2020 M4 Edition ///M Heritage Coupe.

This “special” car is supposed to commemorate BMW M GmbH’s founding back in 1972. Why is BMW doing this for the 2020 model year when 2022 is the 50th anniversary? Money, duh. In addition, there’s an offset stripe on the roof that contains all three M colors. Non-runflat, mixed performance tires and forged 20-inch wheels are also included.

Other unique equipment includes special badging, seat embroidery, door sill plates, and Merino leather upholstery. The Competition Package is also thrown in there. For celebrating the M line, you would think this version of the M4 would feature some enhanced performance, but that would’ve made too much sense. Instead, production will be limited to 750 units globally, so good luck scoring one of these.
