BMW has been spreading its Competition Package across its lineup in recent years. First, we saw it touch the M5 and then it made its way to the M6. Today, the smaller M models in BMW’s lineup receive this performance-enhancing package. I am talking about the M3 and M4, of course.

As standard, the M3 and M4 produce 425 horsepower from their 3.0-liter engines, which is enough to get the coupe and sedan to 60 mph in just 4.1 seconds with the manual transmission and 3.9 seconds with the auto. This new package pushes their output to 444 horsepower, which in turn drops their sprint times to 3.8 seconds with the auto and four seconds with the manual.

Buyers who fancy unlimited headroom can get this package with the M4 Convertible too. This package drops the convertible’s sprint time to just 4.3 seconds with the manual transmission and 4.1 seconds with the auto.

The extra power is great, but it means very little without an upgraded suspension system. The Competition Package ticks this box too, as it includes the Adaptive M Suspension system. This system includes new springs, dampers, and anti-roll bars to tighten things up, while new driving modes make the M3 and M4 more customizable than ever. Also included are 20-inch M alloy wheels wrapped up in 265/30R20 rubber up front and 285/30R20 tires out back.

The exteriors of the M3 and M4 are modified by the addition of this package as well. They gain black-chrome exhaust tips, the BMW Individual high-gloss Shadow Line trim, and gloss black on the grille, side gills, and rear badge. Inside, these models gain lightweight M sports seats and seatbelts with the BMW M woven in.

All of these goodies come in at just $5,500 over the base price for the M3 and M4, while the M4 convertible calls for an extra $5,000 for this package. Adding the Competition Package will put the M3 at $69,000, the M4 at $71,200, and the M4 convertible at $79,200. The Competition Package will be ready for order in the spring of 2016.
