Behold The Mercedes-Maybach G 650 Landaulet
If you have sick amounts of cash, the new Mercedes-Maybach G 650 Landaulet is perfect. It takes the ridiculously awesome G-Wagen, and elevates it to a height of luxury that’s worthy of the Maybach name. I guess it’s a great excuse to make something with humongous profit margins.
Under the hood is a fire-breathing biturbo V-12 AMG engine, which cranks out 630 horsepower and 738 lb.-ft. of torque. That’s absolutely necessary just to haul around the copious amounts of leather, other high-end finishes and cutting-edge tech. Oh, plus the SUV is 17.5 feet long and 7.3 feet tall, so it’s not exactly small.
Oh, and you get a somewhat open-top experience. I say somewhat, because unlike the Wrangler, only the rear passengers sit exposed to the elements, so it sucks to be the driver. There is a cool electric convertible top, so you don’t have to mess with using your arms to move that super heavy fabric top up and down.
If you really start looking at the interior, it’s obviously set up for the extremely wealthy, because most of the amenities are geared at the rear passengers, because the chauffer doesn’t get to have any fun. There are two reclining seats with quilted leather upholstery, two 10-inch entertainment screens, plus inflatable air cushions, and even two fold-out trays in the center console. Among the other ridiculous features is a glass partition between the front and rear seats, which at the flip of the switch turns opaque. Yeah, this is no vehicle for mere peasants.
