BAC Shows Off the Updated Mono at Goodwood

I think I’ve make it pretty well known that I am a super-fan of lightweight track-tuned rigs with little more than a seat, a harness, a steering wheel, and a small-displacement engine. This is precisely why I am in love with the insanely fast BAC Mono, despite its crazy price tag. Well, BAC has just let us all in on the 2016 Mono, and it is even more awesome than the previous iteration.
In previous years, the BAC Mono rolled in with a 2.3-liter Cosworth engine that put out 280 horsepower, which was plenty to turn the 1,279-pound Mono into a rocket ship. Specifically, the old Mono could hit 60 mph in 2.8 seconds and it topped out at 170 mph.
For the 2016 model year, the BAC Mono should be considerably faster, as it is essentially the same car with an extra 25 horsepower. That’s right, the Cosworth engine is out and in comes a Mountune 2.5-liter four-cylinder with 305 horsepower that uses drive-by-wire technology. What’s more, this new engine does not make the track monster any heavier.
In addition to the new engine, the BAC Mono also gets a custom interior fitment, which nets the owner a custom-tailored seat and a custom steering wheel for the ideal driving position.
Unfortunately, BAC didn’t offer any additional information on the 2016 Mono, but I think it is safe to assume that the rest of the car will carry over unchanged. No need to mess with near perfection now, right?
We’ll bring you more information as we near its release date, which remains unconfirmed for now.
