Audi has recently taken the e-tron project to a new level, and the latest to feel the electrification is the Q7. It began with the Euro-spec Q7 3.0-TDI e-tron and it continues with the China-exclusive Q7 2.0 TFSI e-tron. This new model essentially carries all of the same features as the 3.0 TDI model, save for the diesel engine.

Instead of the ol’ oil burner, this China-bound e-tron boasts a 2.0-liter TFSI engine that produces 252 horsepower and 273 pound-feet of torque. This gasoline-fueled engine mates to a disc-shaped electric motor that puts out another 126 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of twist. Combined, the two powerplants put out a total of 367 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque, which amounts to a 5.9-second 0-to-100 km/h sprint time and a top speed of 136.7 mph.

Despite being pretty quick, the Q7 2.0 TFSI e-tron still gets superb fuel economy, as Audi estimates that this thrifty SUV will get 94.1 mpg-e. Thanks to its 17.3 kWh battery pack, the Q7 2.0 TFSI e-tron can travel up to 32.9 miles on electricity alone, and it can go 633.8 miles on a full tank of fuel and a fully charged battery.

Unfortunately, this model will not be available in the U.S., as it will only make its way to Chinese dealerships. Audi did not reveal any pricing details, but it did mention that it’ll be available at the beginning of 2016.

Now with Europe and China covered with e-tron SUVs, it is only a matter of time before Audi officially announces one for the U.S. It is possible that we’ll see the 3.0 TDI model over here, but it also wouldn’t shock me to see this 2.0-liter-powered model hit U.S. shores at some point in the future.

Stay tuned for more details.
