Alfa Romeo Has A Killer Model Onslaught In The Works
Fiat Chrysler Automobiles has some serious plans in the works for the Alfa Romeo brand. As of right now, the 4C and 4C Spider are the only vehicles for sale in the United States that wear the Alfa Romeo badge, but by 2019 that number will balloon to eight models. About every six months, a new model will be unleashed on the market, making for a killer onslaught FCA hopes will translate into big sales.
Everyone should know that the Giulia is the first of the model push. It packs a serious punch with a 2.9-liter V-6 engine that has a Ferrari lineage, which the sedan will need as it goes against the BMW 3 Series, Mercedes C-Class, Cadillac ATS, etc.
Next up is an unnamed midsize SUV, which will use the same platform and powertrain as the Giulia. It will compete against the Audi Q5, BMW X3, etc.
A flagship large sedan will be released and will be based on a stretched version of the Giulia platform. At the moment, no V-8 engine is in the works, but that might change. Expect it to take on the Audi A6, Mercedes E-Class and the like.
Roadster fans should be happy to know that Alfa Romeo is jumping into the market segment. Tall people will be pleased to know it’ll be larger than the tiny Mazda Miata and upcoming Fiat 124. It will also be based on the Giulia’s platform, or a shorter version of it, and amazingly will come with the same engine offerings. In other words, nobody will accuse it of being gutless.
A midsize coupe is next and will pretty much be the roadster with a fixed roof.
A potentially huge moneymaker for the Alfa Romeo brand will be a large SUV, because consumers in China and the United States love such vehicles. It should ride on the same platform as the large sedan and will take the fight to the BMW X5, Volvo XC90, etc.
The last vehicle is still enshrouded in secrecy/uncertainty. Some reports are saying it will be a new compact hatchback, others a compact sedan, and still other reports say it should be a compact coupe.
