Acura Set to Tackle Pikes Peak with a New EV in an NSX Suit
Pikes Peak is 156 corners of sheer insanity, and I love it. There is very little hoopla surrounding it and the action is crazy as professionals and rookies alike see how quickly they can climb the twisty road. Today, Acura has unveiled a new concept that’ll tackle the climb wearing one hell of a sharp suit.
The vehicle in question, known simply as the EV Concept, will use Acura’s experimental all-electric Super Handling All-Wheel Drive powertrain and it’ll wear a body inspired by the stunning NSX. While the details surrounding this vehicle and its powertrain are still under wraps, we do know that this is a four-motor system that uses a pair of twin-motor units—one on each axle—which allows for true four-wheel torque vectoring. In addition to delivering precise handling, this torque-vectoring system will pair up with the immediate torque available from the electric motors to deliver neck-snapping acceleration.
The lucky soul to pilot this rig up the mountain will be none other than Tetsuya Yamano, the same man who piloted Honda’s EV CR-Z up the hill last year. Last year, he had a nice run, taking 14th place overall and first in the “PPC – Exhibition” class with his 10-minute 23.829-second run.
Fortunately, we won’t have to wait too long to see just how well the EV Concept does on the hill as the event kicks of on June 26, 2016. Keep it locked here for the latest updates on the event.
