Here we go, folks. The veil has been lifted and the embargo is no more, as Acura has finally revealed all of the technical bits surrounding the 2017 NSX. No more teasing, as we finally get to learn just how amazing the hybrid supercar really is.

Let’s just dive right into the area that everyone is waiting for, the powertrain. Sitting behind the rear seats is a twin-turbo 3.5-liter V-6 engine that delivers 500 horsepower and 406 pound-feet of torque. This engine pairs with a front-mounted twin-motor unit that injects another 73 horsepower, putting the total output at 573 ponies. Acura claims this is an estimated number, but that is a pretty specific estimate.

The engine and electric motor make use of a nine-speed dual-clutch transmission to deliver quick shifts. Coupling the engine and transmission is a Direct Drive Motor, which doesn’t add any power to the drivetrain, but helps give the NSX its off-the-line performance.

This powertrain combines to deliver insane performance, as the NSX can hit 191 mph and sprint to 60 mph in just three seconds.

Straight-line power is only one piece of the puzzle for the NSX, as Acura also spent some serious time working on the supercar’s handling. This complex puzzle starts with the supercar’s rigid body and platform, and ends with the magnetic ride dampers, Brembo brakes with carbon-ceramic rotors and variable-ratio electric power steering. Acura even thought ahead by installing double ball-joint lower suspension arms that prevents torque steer from the front TMU.

On top of its advanced chassis, the 2017 NSX’s 3,803-pound base curb weight should make it pretty tossable. What’s more, 58 percent of its weight is over the rear axle, which should sit well with those of you who like to let the back end get a little drifty.

The 2017 NSX makes use of Acura’s Integrated Dynamics System, which includes four selectable drive modes for varying conditions. In “Quiet” mode, which only works at low speeds, the NSX primarily uses its electric motors for propulsion. Should your right foot get a little heavy, the engine will kick in automatically, but will not exceed 4,000 rpm to keep the noise to a minimum. In “Sport” mode, the NSX loses its 4,000 rpm limit and opens up its Active Exhaust Valve for a little extra noise.

For more daring drivers, the “Sport+” makes the NSX shift more quickly, gives it a more aggressive throttle map, pumps up the power of its electric motor, tweaks the Direct Yaw Control, and more. Click the IDS into “Track” mode, and all systems go to max for the best performance and the feedback into the cabin goes to a new level for a more connected feel.

Acura has yet to announce when the NSX will hit dealers, but I suspect it will be pretty early in 2016. Stay tuned for more information.
