2019 BMW M2 Competition Makes the M2 Even Awesome-er-er
Anyone who argues the BMW M2 isn’t one of the best modern-day Bimmer’s ever build needs their head examined. The M2 almost brings us back to BMW’s roots of small car + power + luxury = insane fun, a la the BMW 2002. For 2019, BMW will make the M2 even fun-er-er…
So, how does Bimmer plan to take a car that already makes BMW traditionalists’ go-fast feet twitch? Make a Competition model, of course. In 2019, the M2 Competition will replace the M2 Coupe and inject more power, more control, and more features.
I won’t tease, so let’s start with the powerplant. BMW will retune the already perfect-for-the-M2 3.0-liter turbo to milk 405 ponies and 406 pound-feet of torque from it – that’s a 40 horsepower and 63-pound-foot jump for this lightweight Bimmer. This straight-six will continue to pair with a six-speed manual transmission or an optional seven-speed dual-clutch transmission with three selectable settings: comfort, sport, and sport+.
The aforementioned settings for the transmission are part of a new group of control settings placed on the center console. Here, the driver can quickly retune the 2019 M2’s personality for changing conditions.
All these powertrain updates add up to a roughly 4-second sprint to 60 mph – a 0.1-second improvement – and a 174-mph top speed with the M Sport Package for the 2019 M2.
The 2019 M2 Competition also gets a reworked front with more rigidity than before thanks to a new carbon-fiber-reinforced-plastic front strut brace. It also gains recalibrated dynamic stability control.
Inside, the M2 Competition gains new M Sport Seats with plenty of support and bolstering, as well as integrated headrests. There are also two new exterior paint colors available on the 2019 BMW M2 Competition: M2 Competition-exclusive Hockenheim Silver, which replaces Mineral Grey Metallic, and Sunset Orange Metallic.
The 2019 BM M2 will hit showrooms in the summer of 2018 – pricing will come closer to its launch date.
