2018 Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid Sport Turismo is Much More Than a Hybrid Wagon

The Panamera has long been a necessary evil for Porsche, much like the Cayenne and Macan. They satisfy the needs of mass consumers (aka families) so Porsche can rake in the dough needed to build sheer insanity, like the 718. The coolest thing about these more family-friendly models is that despite their relatively drab looks, they are always capable of living up to the legendary crest on their noses — even the hybrids.

Today, Porsche announced the newest wrinkle in its Panamera E-Hybrid Sport Turismo lineup, and it’s nothing like what its name implies. This hybrid station wagon also happens to have the Turbo S badge on it, meaning it is ready to perform.

With its 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V-8 engine that boasts 550 horsepower and 136-horsepower electric motor, this slice of hybrid amazingness has a full 680 horsepower and 626 pound-feet of torque powering it. This power routes through an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission on its way to all four wheels via its standard all-wheel-drive system with Porsche Traction Management.

This powertrain delivers a 192-mph top speed and a 3.2-second 0-to-60 sprint time. There’s no word on its fuel economy or EV range, but its 14.1-kWh battery will likely give it around 20 miles of range before the engine kicks in.

The 2018 Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid Sport Turismo will have a list of standard features longer than its name. These will include Porsche Advanced Cockpit, Porsche InnoDrive with adaptive cruise and optional rear-axle steering, an adaptive roof spoiler, carbon-ceramic brakes, and much more.
