Who Needs a Girlfriend When You Have a Performance Car?

Apparently, you get more enjoyment out of driving a performance car than kissing your significant other. That’s according to new research from Ford, which as an automaker absolutely isn’t biased one bit.

To see how driving a fun car stacks up to kissing and more, neuroscientists used medical equipment to measure everything from galvanic skin response to heart rate while a person engaged in seven different activities. The team logged how many “buzz moments” participants had, or moments of pure thrill, leading to elevated happiness.

Here’s where it gets weird: shopping was third with 1.7 buzz moments, while watching a football game or Game of Thrones scored 1.5 buzz moments. Dining, salsa dancing, and kissing all racked up exactly zero buzz moments. I guess those are buzz-kills for the weirdos who volunteered for this study?

The whole point of the study was to start developing in-car AI systems that can read human emotions. The tech could prevent road rage incidents, drowsy driving, and more.
