VW reveals GTI Supersport Vision Gran Turismo
Just when you thought the Vision Gran Turismo series of digital racecars was complete, another insane piece of four-wheeled insanity shows up. This time around, the racecar is based on the Volkswagen GTI. Officially dubbed the GTI Supersport Vision Gran Turismo, this super-hatch is one for the ages, but it’ll never in a million years spawn a production model.
Why am I so confident that this will never see the light of day? Well, because it has a VR6 TSI engine under its hood that produces an outlandish 503 horsepower and 490 pound-feet of torque. This massive amount of power hits the pavement via 20-inch alloy wheels after making its way through a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission and VW’s 4MOTION all-wheel-drive system. This drivetrain adds up to a 0-to-62 mph sprint of just 3.6 seconds and a top speed of 186 mph.
On the outside, VW’s designers made sure to retain much of the GTI’s appearance, but the racing cues are still very apparent. The body modifications include a huge front bumper with an aggressive lip spoiler, honeycomb air inlets and vertical fog lights, enhanced side-sill extensions, huge brake-cooling ducts on the rear quarter panel, a roof-mounted spoiler, and a wild rear diffuser. Less obvious is the heavy use of carbon fiber, which drops the power-to-weight ratio to just 5.5 pounds per horsepower.
The GTI Supersport is available now for Gran Turismo 6 on the PlayStation 3. Racers can get this car in four colors: Reflex Silver, Gran Turismo Red, Lapiz Blue, or Oryx White. There is no mention of whether this download will be free or if there is a fee involved.
