Sometimes you only get to bask in the glory of victory for a short time. Honda can no longer claim to have the best FWD Nurburgring lap time, because it now belongs to Volkswagen.

In case you don’t remember, the Civic Type R got around the Nordschleife in just 7:50, which is impressive. Volkswagen just announced its GTI Clubsport S ran it in 7:49.21, barely edging out the Honda.

Did Honda really think it could push around the Germans on their home turf?

Volkswagen took a GTI Clubsport, shed a bunch of weight and tuned the engine to push out an additional 44 horsepower.

Before you get all excited and run out to the local VW dealership, know that only 400 GTI Clubsport S cars will be made. None will be sold in the US, because we’re not worthy.
