VW Dieselgate 2.0 TDI Plan Is Official
We have a finalized 2.0 TDI settlement program! Volkswagen has drawn out the process of settling the whole Dieselgate thing, even trying to play the victim at several points, and after about a year it’s proposed plan for all 2.0 TDIs has received approval from a US District Court Judge.
This means the whole buyback process should fire up soon. Volkswagen has a whole army of new employees just to handle the return of all those vehicles, which will be ruthlessly crushed into tiny bricks, never to pollute again. Likely most of the 475,000 TDI owners won’t opt for the fix, but instead will ditch their vehicle and get some extra cash in the process.
Then soon-to-be former VW owners need to really figure out what they want to get next. TrueCar told the LA Times it expects plenty of people to stick with the Volkswagen brand, despite all the cheating and lying.
The deal that was approved in court also includes billions of dollars going toward emissions reduction programs, environmental efforts and even pushing zero-emission vehicles.
Before you get too teary-eyed about Volkswagen’s goodness, just remember there are quite a few people with 3.0 TDI engines who are still in limbo. Volkswagen has been working on a solution for that part of Dieselgate for a while now, and promises it totally will have a resolution soon. And of course, soon could mean six or more months, so we’ll see.
