VW Aims To Undercut Tesla Model 3 Price Big Time
It seems everyone’s taking aim at Tesla these days. That’s understandable, because honestly Tesla is a media darling. This time, Volkswagen thinks the Model 3 is grossly overpriced. As a consequence, the Germans have plans to launch their own long-range electric car that would be priced somewhere in the mid-$20,000s.
Yes, you read that right: mid-$20,000s.
Volkswagen’s image took a serious beating with Dieselgate. Even though it also saw a dip in sales for the US market, the company is still flush with cash and manufacturing power. Those are two things Tesla simply doesn’t have.
This info is coming from Forbes, which ran a piece about how VW will show off a concept version of this future EV. It will be based on the Golf, like the current limited-run e-Golf. The big reveal will be at the Paris Motor Show, so we have a pretty short wait.
Before you get all excited and cancel your Tesla Model 3 order, you should know one more thing. Forbes says VW will release this new electric car in 2025. By then, there should be plenty of competition, and a mid-$20,000s price point might just be normal.
