Volvo Adds the Super-Luxurious XC90 Excellence
So what happens when Volvo decides it wants to play around in Bentley and Rolls-Royce territory? The XC90 Excellence is what happens. This new uber-luxury SUV is based on the standard XC90, but shares little more that its shell, chassis, and drivetrain.
Volvo completely gutted the cabin and built this special model with a focus on the rear-seat passengers. The first goal was to give them as much room as possible, so it removed the third row of seats and turned this one-time seven-seat SUV into a four-seater.
Extra legroom is not all the rear-seat passengers get. They are also privy to reclining seats with massage and ventilation, a retractable touchscreen, folding tables, a refrigerator with bottle and glass holders, heating and cooling cup holders, handmade crystal glasses, footrests, ambient lighting, an ionic air cleaner, and a Bowers & Wilkins audio system with 20 speakers.
Volvo also paid special attention to minimizing noise in the cabin. To aid in this, the Scandinavian automaker installed Pirelli Noise Cancelling System tires and added additional sound-deadening material.
The exterior of the XC90 Excellence received a few small touches too. These include Excellence badges, chrome B- and C-pillar caps, and chrome lower door moldings.
There is no mention of which drivetrain powers this super-luxury SUV, nor is there any mention of its price. My best guess on price would be at least $125,000. Volvo mentioned that the XC90 Excellence will be a global model that will find its way into most major markets around the world in 2015. Unfortunately, buyers in the UK will not get to enjoy this model, as Volvo announced that Brits will not have access to it.
