Volkswagen Announces $7 Billion-Plus North American Commitment

It’s no secret that Volkswagen’s been struggling in the North American market. That was true before the whole Dieselgate scandal broke, because for some reason the company just doesn’t quite understand American consumers.

But the United States is the second-largest market in the world, so VW is doubling down with a huge new effort. The company recently said it’s sinking over $7 billion into this market by 2019. The most recent example is a new $6.8 million parts distribution center located in Rocklin, California.

Another part of the investment plan involves establishing a training center in the Los Angeles area. It’s also no coincidence that Volkswagen is moving more operations to California, which is the biggest market in North America and is a big trend-setter when it comes to cars and a lot of a other things.

There’s no word on what other tricks Volkswagen has up it’s sleeves, other than what we already knew about. Perhaps the smartest move the company’s making is a plan to launch a full-size SUV with three rows. It’s been a huge gap in the model lineup.
