The TVR reboot is not a big secret, as the new owners long ago announced that the automaker would return with a new sports car by 2017. Today, we get our first glimpse of this new model by way of a computer sketch from the automaker. In addition to the image, the news also includes some more details surrounding its construction and powertrain.

Just one look at the above image should be enough to get any fan of sports cars all riled up. This initial teaser features a long wheelbase, a proper cab-rearward setup with a stubby backside and long hood, and plenty of angles for your eyes to digest. Obviously, TVR’s designers put great care into creating this mockup, as it is just wild enough looking to grab your attention without being in-your-face loud.

According to TVR, this new sports car will be available as either a coupe or convertible, and it will come with a traditional front-engine, rear-wheel-drive setup. It will also fit just two people, so pick your riding mates carefully.

The powertrain will include a Cosworth-built, dry-sump V-8 powerplant that lacks the all-so-popular turbochargers of today. The output of this engine remains unknown for now, but it should easily pass the 400-horsepower mark. Mated to this V-8 is a proper manual gearbox for you traditionalists. There does not appear to be any sort of auto transmission in the works.

The structure will be built using Gordon Murray Design’s iStream technology, which means it should have plenty of carbon-fiber to help keep weight down. The great thing about the iStream process is that it is far less expensive than traditional carbon-fiber work, reducing capital investment by as much as 80 percent and manufacturing energy by up to 60 percent. This will help keep the price of the new TVR sports car in check.

More details should be rolling out soon, given TVR is planning to deliver its new model in 2017, so keep it locked here for the latest.
