The term “American car” isn’t as clear cut as it once was. It used to be that if it were an American company, it was an American car. However, with American automakers now sourcing parts and labor from other countries to save money, and foreign automakers using more American labor and parts, the most American cars are not actually “American” after all.

Cars.com just finished its yearly list of the most American cars, and topping that list is the Toyota Camry. Second place went to another Toyota product, the Sienna. It’s not until you get to the third-most American car that you run into an “American” car, the Chevrolet Traverse. Coming in fourth is the Honda Odyssey, while the GMC Acadia, Buick Enclave, and Chevrolet Corvette round out the list.

If you’re wondering why Cars.com limited the list to only seven cars, there is a great reason. Cars.com requires a car to have at least 75 percent American parts to qualify for this list, and these were the only seven cars that qualified.

Also surprising is that the leader of this list in 2013 and 2014, the Ford F-150, is nowhere on the 2015 list. That’s because the recently redesigned pickup is made up of more than 25 percent foreign parts. Let that sink in for a second… The F-150, a pickup truck that screamed ‘Murica fr generations, is not even mentioned in a list of the most American rigs.

Despite these select foreign models being the most American cars, this does not mean that their respective brands are more American than Ford, Chevy, or FCA. In fact, 37 of the 57 American-assembled cars with 60 percent or more U.S. parts are from the big three American automakers listed above. Therefore, American automakers may still (technically) more American companies, though their individual models cannot match the American content in the Toyota Camry and Sienna.
