Toyota Teases the 2019 Avalon

The Toyota Avalon hasn’t received a full redesign since 2013, so it is ripe for surgery. Toyota confirmed the Avalon will get its much-needed redo in time for the 2019 model year.

With the Camry, the Avalon’s close relative, receiving a complete overhaul in 2018, and the Lexus ES — another close relative — rumored to have a redesign in the works for 2019, I’m not shocked the 2019 Avalon will be all-new. Sadly, we’ll have to wait a bit to get our first full look at the new Avalon, as Toyota announced it wouldn’t reveal the revamped sedan until Monday, Jan. 15, at the Detroit Auto Show.

Along with this announcement came a teaser image (above) that shows off the 2019 Avalon’s headlight, grille, hood, and air intake. This image makes it clear that the Avalon will continue with its relationship with the Camry, as the hood ridges are identical to the 2018 Camry’s, and its headlights are very similar.

With this continued relationship established, it’s pretty easy to predict what the 2019 Avalon will bring to the table. Like the new-generation Camry, the 2019 Avalon will be lower, wider, and sportier than before, and will boast a roomier cabin.

Under its hood, we anticipate the current Camry’s 3.5-liter V-6 engine, which cranks out 301 horsepower. We also expect a hybrid model to join in with the same 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine and electric motor that pair up to produce 208 horsepower. Like the Camry Hybrid, the Avalon Hybrid should end up in the 50 mpg combined range.

We’ll keep an eye on this upcoming reveal, so check back often for updates.
