The Polestar 1 Will Be Hyper Expensive
Since Polestar unveiled its first stand-alone performance vehicle, the Polestar 1, demand has been unreal. Perhaps the Swedes saw an opportunity, because with prospective buyers now able to pre-order the car online, we know the price is astronomical.
Let’s just say the car will be placed squarely in prestige pricing territory, considering it will set you back $155,000. In Europe, the vehicle will cost 155,000 euros.
Admittedly, this plug-in hybrid looks amazing, but other cars in that price range, like the Acura NSX and BMW i8, aren’t exactly ugly. Of course, the Polestar 1 has 600 horsepower, but still. It’s almost as expensive as the Porsche 911 Turbo. Crazy.
Factoring into this price, besides crazy demand, is the fact Polestar will only make 500 of these cars. High demand and scarcity no doubt have combined to drive up the cost, and people will pay it. Polestar says over 7,000 people in 18 countries have put a deposit down on the car. They obviously won’t all get one.
If you prefer, Polestar will reveal a monthly subscription service, which apparently will include everything. That sounds like the subscription service for the Volvo XC40, but pricing for this one isn’t available right now. I’m going to guess it will be in the neighborhood of a reasonable mortgage payment or so.
