The Nissan GT-R Destroys the Drifting World Record

GT-R Drift Record Breaker

Earlier this week, Nissan unveiled a mysterious teaser image claiming that the GT-R had broken yet another world record. This put the Internet into a frenzy trying to figure out what’s up. Today, Nissan revealed the world record and all the details surrounding it.

The GT-R has just broken the Guinness world record for the fastest drift. The GT-R’s driver and Japanese drifting champion, Masato Kawabata, managed to hold the GT-R in a 30-degree drift at 304.95 km/h (189.49 mph).

The record-breaking event took place at the Fujairah International Airport in the United Arab Emirates, which offered a 3 km (1.86-mile) long airstrip to give the Japanese supercar room to run. The weapon of choice? A highly tuned 2016 GT-R that pounds out a wild 1,380 horsepower. Nissan didn’t give out too much info on the technical bits that make up this roided-up Godzilla, but it did mention that Greddy Trust’s technicians spent three days working on the rig to assure it would be in top shape for its run.

Sadly, this record has nothing to do with the newest GT-R Nismo, which I expect to be as awesome as it’s ever been. Hopefully, we’ll hear something on it soon, but until then, enjoy the super-fast sideways action in the video below.
