The MX-5 Miata RF Launch Edition is Sold Out
Other than significant redesigns throughout its generations, the MX-5 Miata hasn’t had a ton of buzz-creating models. The last was likely the Mazdaspeed version in its second generation. In the latest generation, however, the Miata gained what’s likely the most buzzworthy version yet: the Retractable Fastback (RF).
Now, Mazda has proven just how hot this new version of the Miata is, as it’s announced that the RF Launch Edition is officially sold out.
The Miata RF Launch Edition went through a staggered release in which Mazda first opened the order books to select Mazda customers. This initial release began on Sept. 26 and ran through Oct. 3. During this time, more than 500 units were ordered. On Oct. 3, Mazda opened its ordering system to all buyers, and the remainder of the 1,000 units earmarked for this year sold out in just 13 hours. As expected, the majority – 67 percent – of buyers opted for the manual transmission.
For those who missed out on the chance to own this piece of history, there are still plenty versions of the RF up for grabs. They start from $31,155 for the Club 6MT model and top out at $33,825 for the Grand Touring 6AT version. Buyers looking for a little more sportiness, there is the Brembo/BBS Package for $3,400.
These non-Launch edition models are in showrooms now and there should be plenty available to satisfy all buyers.
Stay tuned for updates.
