The E-Class Wagon Finally gets its Redesign
Earlier this year, Mercedes launched the all-new 2017 E-Class sedan but held off on the more family-friendly wagon model. Today, the German automaker has officially unveiled the 2017 wagon and its new E400 designation.
Essentially, the E-Class wagon is what we expect it to be: an E-Class with a little something extra in the back. Up front, the E-Class wagon, like the sedan, takes on the more-stylish look that the new C-Class and S-Class boast. This nose also has two options, Luxury and Sport. The former uses a more traditional grille and a hood-mounted emblem while the latter uses a sports grille with the emblem built in. Around back, the widened taillights are again taken from the C- and S-Class models, and the rear hatch boasts a spoiler with an LED stop light built in.
Inside, things are all new as well and mimic the look found in the sedan. In here, buyers will notice that the cabin is quieter than ever thanks to a more rigid body and additional sound deadening. Buyers will also be treated to an all-new look, more natural wood trim, tons of material options, a new steering wheel, a 64-color ambient-light system, an optional 12.3-inch high-resolution display, and more.
At launch, the E-Class wagon will come in one flavor, the E400 wagon. This model will boast a 3.0-liter twin-turbo V-6 with 329 horsepower and 354 pound-feet of torque. The power routes through a new nine-speed auto transmission on its way to the rear wheels or all four wheel with the optional 4MATIC system.
Mercedes expects to have the E400 wagon in showrooms in early 2017. Pricing will come at a later date.
