Cadillac has been making things a bit uncomfortable for BMW and Mercedes  as of late with the introduction of the ATS-V and the CTS-V. The V-Series version of the ATS has all the goods to give buyers a reason to consider it over the M3, M4, or C63, and the upcoming CTS-V gives M5 and E63 buyers something to think about. Now buyers have even more reason to debate buying a V-Series Caddy over an M or AMG, as Cadillac has released the starting price for the CTS-V, and neither BMW nor Mercedes are any more comfortable.

The 2016 Cadillac CTS-V will debut at a starting price of just $83,995. This puts the lightning-fast sedan at a $9,605 advantage over the M5 and a $17,705 advantage over the 2015 E63 AMG S 4MATIC.

On top of having a huge pricing advantage, the CTS-V is also faster than the M5 by a long shot, thanks to its 3.7-second sprint to 60 mph and 200 mph top speed – the M5 hits 60 in as few as 4.2 seconds and tops out at 155 mph. When compared to the E63 AMG S-Model, the CTS-V loses out in the 0-to-60 run by 0.2 seconds, but it wins in terms of top speed by 14 mph.

This insane performance is all thanks to a 6.2-liter supercharged V-8 engine that pounds out 640 horsepower and 630 pound-feet of torque. The power routes through an eight-speed auto transmission and out to the rear wheels. Just imagine the craziness if the CTS-V came with all-wheel drive…

Along with the honor of owning one of the fastest luxury sedans on the market today, the CTS-V also gives its buyers 19-inch wheels wrapped in sticky Michelin tires, Touring, Sport, Track, and Snow (AKA “you’re freaking nuts”) driving modes, sueded microfiber seats, and matte-carbon-fiber trim. It honestly sounds like the complete package on paper.

However, “on paper” is the key phrase here. It is best to hold off our judgement on these three fast sedans until they have all had a proper thrashing in a three-way battle royale. I am sure we will see this shortly after the CTS-V debuts this summer. Stay tuned.
