William Shakespeare once penned the famous line “action is eloquence.”

If the Bard is right, and he is indeed right, the Brits are far more eloquent than Americans, at least when it comes to any appreciation of an American muscle car powered by a pulsating V-8 engine. As originally reported by Car and Driver, 70 percent of all Mustangs that were initially preordered in the UK have the 5.0-liter V-8 engine.

The British are also actively trying to save the manuals, with 55 percent of the preordered Mustangs coming with a human-controlled stick shift.

In the United States, Ford reported that in the first little while after the new Mustang was released, only 52 percent of buyers opted for the V-8. The remainder of shoppers went with the EcoBoost and V-6 versions in about equal numbers. Apparently, those proportions have stayed pretty much stable up through July of this year.

Of course, it must be noted that in Britain the Mustang only comes with either the EcoBoost or the V-8. An even more likely cause of the British craving V-8 Mustangs is the absence of the American pony car in the country for far too long. After waiting five decades for the vehicle, few people are going to squander the opportunity on a sissy four- or six-cylinder engine. Perhaps enthusiasts in the United States have become too sophisticated for their own good, and for once need to learn something from the British getting in touch with their primal selves through the use of a raucous V-8.
