The next-generation Wrangler is right around the corner as it is due to be in place for the 2018 model year. With its debut nearing come gobs of rumors and leaks. Recently, we received a little more information on the new SUV’s aluminum body.

When FCA initially released info on the new Wrangler, it made clear the fact that the Wrangler would have an aluminum body. This was later amended to only having various components made from aluminum. A new leak uncovered recently outlines what components those will be.

According to a leaked internal memo from Alcoa, which was dug up by the folks at JLWranglerForums.com, the 2018 Wrangler will be the first vehicle to use the company’s C6A1 high-form alloy. But that’s not the real news. The big reveal is that the company will also provide 6022 (an aluminum alloy) for the Wrangler’s front and rear door inners, and hood.

The only remaining question is whether this is all the aluminum that the Wrangler will use or if there is another provider working on additional lightweight body panels. At this point, only time will reveal the answer to that question.

What we also know about the Wrangler is that it’ll gain new, more fuel-efficient powertrains and a new pickup version. The exact reveal date for the 2018 Wrangler remains unknown, but it should be sometime soon, given we are nearing the end of 2016.

We’ll keep an eye out for news on the new Wrangler. Stay tuned for updates.
