Despite my many nags about compact crossovers, there is no hiding the fact that they are hot right now. One of the hottest, despite such a short time on the market, is the Chevrolet Trax. In 2015—its first year—the tiny Trax sold 63,303 units, making it the second-best selling small crossover on the market. Today, Chevy announced that it is refining the Trax for the 2017 model year by way of a refresh that many felt it needed to better match the brand’s style.

Up front, you’ll notice that the Trax has an all-new face that better matches new models like the Cruze and Malibu. This fascia includes a new set of wraparound headlights with available LED signature lighting, a new dual-port grille, and a slightly restyled hood. Around back, Chevy installed new dual taillights with available LED signature lighting and a slightly refreshed bumper. Also new are available 18-inch rollers on the Premier trim level.

Another place the Trax was a little iffy to some folks was its cabin, so Chevy spent some time sprucing this up a bit for the 2017 model year. The most noticeable changes include the new, uninterrupted dash topper that makes the cabin feel wider and the center stack setup. The latter now features a 7-inch touchscreen surrounded by a chrome strip in place of the smaller screen that looked almost like it was slapped on the dash as an afterthought in last year’s Trax. Other changes include new air vents, upscale materials, a new instrument cluster, and new tech features like keyless open and start and a 4G LTE hot spot.

The final changes for the 2017 model year are a few new available safety bits to keep you and the fam safe. These new features include blind-spot alert, rear cross-traffic alert, forward collision alert, and lane-departure warning. Carrying over into the new model year is the turbocharged 1.4-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 138 horsepower and 148 pound-feet of torque. The 2017 Chevy Trax will hit dealers in the fall of 2016. Prices will be announced at a later date.
